Amid all the brouhaha over Bowles-Simpson, it is important to remember that former Senator Alan Simpson—one half of the great bipartisan hope for the deficit— is an abrasive, extreme individual.
On public officials protecting Medicare and Medicaid:
They’re going to be punished. I really believe that these people who swear they wont’ touch precious Medicare, precious Medicaid, precious Social Security, and precious defense, the people will know these people are full of it, they’re full of BS.
On the AARP:
These guys are fake. I mean they’re monsters, they’re monsters.
And:
I tell you one thing, they’re a bunch of marketers.
On his aggressiveness towards the elderly:
Well I’m talking about selfish old people.
This is the shining beacon of cooperation in American politics? Really?
